About us

Particle physicists working on safer cancer treatment

Particle Care Technologies S.L. is a spin-off of the Institute of Physics of Cantabria (IFCA), a joint centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Cantabria (UC). We bring radiation-detector know-how from particle physics into the brachytherapy suite.

Our mission

Make every brachytherapy dose verifiable

Brachytherapy is one of the most effective and cost-efficient cancer treatments, yet the dose actually delivered is rarely checked. We want real-time verification to become a standard part of every treatment, so that an error is caught while it can still be stopped.

We are based at the Technology Development Centre of the University of Cantabria (CDTUC) in Santander.

Where we come from

  1. INNVAL 23/18Research project at IFCA shows that SiC diodes are well suited to HDR brachytherapy.
  2. HUMVSensors characterised with a real 192Ir source; favourable opinion from the hospital's ethics committee.
  3. 2025UCem University of Cantabria entrepreneurship award.
  4. 2026Company founded. First flexible circuit boards manufactured. Selected for TOP101 Spain Up Nation.
